The Life of a Freelancer

Sun Nov 23, 2008, 4:28 AM
  • Mood: Zeal
  • Listening to: Wasted - Andy Duguid feat. Leah
  • Reading: PS tutes online...
  • Watching: tv sucks here!
  • Eating: papaya chunks
  • Drinking: LITs when I can afford them
It's been a while since I checked into DA properly. So much has happened since my last entry! Moved back to the homeland, got a job, left the job, travelled to Eastern Europe... this year has been about moving around and occasionally getting some work done! :P I'm having a great time freelancing at the moment, which is why I haven't been stringently seeking a job. However, I'm hoping to move to the city come February, and get a full time position. There's too much going on at the moment for me to think about moving before that... more travel to be had come December, to the pristine beaches of Goa.

Two reasons that I haven't uploaded a whole lot to DA recently are a) confidentiality issues...many of the things I have worked on in the past year are not mine to publish before they're officially released...and b)the most fun and creative work I've done seems to have been outside of the workplace (which doesn't say a whole lot about the job I had, so I'm glad I quit). Freelancing doesn't give me a lot of spare time to faff around in the Creative Suite or continue my jewelry making hobby... but I hope that, come February, the first 'real' job I have in my country will either give me plenty of opportunities to be creative, or at the very least allow me enough spare time to do it on the side! Wishful thinking eh ;)

For now, I'm happy to be earning in a currency more powerful than my country's, getting to manage my own time and not be answerable to arbitrary corporate rules, and being able to travel almost whenever I want! No wonder all the freelancers I know don't ever want to be employees!
